Reykjavik Queer Film Festival opens next week, September 26th. This year, the Reykjavík Queer Film Festival proudly joins forces with RIFF – Reykjavík International Film Festival. Previously, the event was organized independently, but now, by being part of the largest and most prestigious film festival in Iceland, organisers hope to reach out to an even larger audience.
For this first annual collaboration, The Reykjavík Queer Film Festival has put an emphasis on films that have been celebrated at gay and lesbian film festivals all over the world this year, including Breakfast with Scot, a bittersweet Canadian comedy about a gay couple forced to take on a surrogate son; the impressive Drifting Flowers, a Taiwanese film that weaves together stories of three lesbians; and last but not least, A Jihad for Love, a controversial documentary about gay Muslims struggling with faith and sexuality.
During the conclusion of the Reykjavík International Film Festival, a special jury will present “The Best Queer Film Award 2008” to the film considered the best contribution to queer cinema.
Producer of A Jihad for Love Sandi DuBowski will honor the festival with his presence. Sandi Dubowski will be sharing his experience at a meeting in The Rainbow Room, the locals of Samtökin ´78, the National Queer Organization of Iceland, at Laugavegur 3, Friday, 3 October at 12 noon.
