The Transgender day of Rememberance is held in November every year to honor Rita Hester, whose murder in 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. November 20th Sass Rogando Sasot from the Philippines will do a presentation/dialogue tenatively named: The philippinese LGBT community - experience and opinions. The event will take place in the Queer Center on Laugavegur 3, 4th floor starting at 8 pm.
Sass is a member of The Society of Transsexual Women of the Philippines (STRAP, http://www.tsphilippines.com/home.htm) and has years of experience of the struggle for Transgender Rights in the Philippines. Her blogspot: http://nonethelessfiction.blogspot.com/
Before the presentation starts, there will be a 30 minute Rememberance of Transpeople. The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice and to raise public awareness of hate crimes against transgendered people, an action that current media doesn’t perform.
