Q stands for queer but it’s also the name of the Queer Student’s Organization in Iceland which is celebrating it´s 10 year anniversary this year. Some 10 years ago LGBT students where hardly visible at the University of Iceland despite some major legislative improvements taking place in 1996.
Originally named FSS the organization was founded early year 1999 by group of people within the University of Iceland. The main goal was to provide support for LGBT individuals and the LGBT community within the university as a whole as well as to raise awareness among students and staff of LGBT related issues within the University.
January 19th Q invites it´s members, other students, university staff and friends to celebrate its anniversary at 'háskólatorg' between 5 and 7 pm after litting up the main University building with the rainbow colors.
