The local gay scene in Reykjavik is very small but it´s open and friendly. Most of the time you´ll find the local venues mixed with gays and straight people partying together with the exception of "men only" bars & clubs if they exist at all (which they dont as of this writing). Kiki on Laugavegur 22 is the current place to goto and the only operating LGBT club in town by the time this is written. Kiki is open Friday and Saturday nights. The Queer center on Laugavegur 3 (4th floor) is the home of the National Queer Organization, Samtokin 78. It´s a quiet little office and a library, open weekedays from 1-5 pm. Cafe and bar is open Thursday nights from 8 pm and is a nice spot to sit down and relax.
Every year there are several events worth checking out. Reykjavik Gay Pride is Reykjavik´s biggest LGBT event in Iceland and also one of Iceland´s biggest outdoor event attracting 60-70.000 people for the main parade. BEARS ON ICE festival is held in Reykjavik the second weekend of September. This eccentric little festival attracts small number of bears and friends from all over the world and has become an important part of the local gay scene. Rainbow Reykjavik is the latest addition to list of event´s, held in early February. Rainbow Reykjavik is a good blend of cultural activity, sight seeing tours and partying.
