"We´ve already beaten our record number of guests signing up for the event this year, the complete pass is about to be sold out but everyone will be able to show up for the parties organized during the weekend" says organizer Frosti Jónsson. "Last year was our biggest event but this year will be bigger which makes us who organize the whole thing very happy. But it´s still a small event compared to many of the bear events out there and thats what makes it special. Here you get to know everyone by name and by the time you leave you have made friends with fantastic people from around the world".
"BEARS ON ICE started as a little party back in 2005 and at the time we had no plans doing more events. But it was just so much fun we decided to give it another try and since then it´s been growing bigger every year. For us who organize the whole thing it´s also important to bring some more flavor to the gay scene in Reykjavik and we´re seeing more locals showing up which is a very good thing".
For this year´s event guests will be coming from all corners of the world, most of the guys come from North America (US and Canada) and Europe but there are also guys coming all the way from Australia including one of the event´s guest DJs, Colin Gaff who will perform with gust DJ John Eltong who comes from Denmark. The DreamBears from UK will also throw a performance but they are doing a stop over in Iceland on their way back home from Seattle where they are performing at the XL Bear Weekend.
What is BEARS ON ICE?
"We see this as a friendly social event for bears and friends who simply like the company of like-minded guys from all over the world. We try hard to make everyone mingle and feel comfortable while enjoying the local scene and Iceland´s scenery". Acoording to Frosti many of the guys who come for the event add a few days to their travel to see more of Iceland. A few of the guys coming this year have also been to past events, a few have been to BEARS ON ICE four or five times in the past! "This is often a starting point of a great lasting friendship and a lot of the guys stay in touch well beyond the event. Thats exactly what this event is all about: fun and friendship.
