Reykjavik Gay Pride is just around the corner with number of events taking place all around Reykjavik for full five days. The official pride program runs from Tuesday (August 5th) through Sunday (August 10th) and offers diversity of events such as documentaries, lectures, Diving Divas, walk around Reykjavik´s Botanic Garden, concerts, Queer Cruise, dance parties and last but certainly not least a colorful parade.
The Pride Opening Party (Thursday) will for sure get our attention with the one and only RuPaul´s Drag Race contestant Willam performing as well as the Icelandic gay icon and Eurovision contestant Páll Óskar (Paul Oscar). The Opening Ceremony takes place at the beautiful Harpa Concert Hall (city center) and should not be missed!
As always the highlight of Reykjavik Pride will be the Saturday Parade down Reykjavik´s City center which ends it´s course at Arnarhóll where well-known Icelandic singers, bands and entertainers are to perform.
A special attention this year is given to the Intersex community. On Tuesday (August 5th) the documentary Intersexion, describes as "personal, moving, frank and funny exploration of a subject that is still very much a taboo" will be shown at Bíó Paradís Cinema (at Hverfisgata). And on Thursday lecturer Kitty Anderson will discuss various issues intersex people have to deal with in their everyday lives, something worth attending for those who want know more about interest
We can´t but mention the Diving Divas on Wednesday (8 pm) where members from Styrmir Sports Club will showcase their diving techniques. The event takes place at the indoor swimming pool Sundhöllin which will be transformed into a rainbow concert hall for this night only.
