The President of Iceland, Guðni Th. Jóhannesson, address to the Opening Ceremony of Reykjavík Pride, 9 Aug. 2018. The President of Iceland is the protector of The National Queer Organization of Iceland that is celebrating it’s 40th anniversary this year. He used this opportunity to quote from it’s first manifesto:
“Knowledge is the foundation of society. Knowledge unties the knots of prejudice. Knowledge expels ignorance, because knowledge begets understanding. Society is permeated with intolerance and injustice until knowledge takes over. But that takes effort and energy. Effort and energy from those who accept knowledge and want to share it. And this is one of the things I see as my role as head of state in this wonderful country that is Iceland. “
