RÚV begins showing the award-winning British drama Lost Boys & Fairies tonight, Monday 3 August, at 21:30. The series follows Gabriel and Andy, a gay couple in Cardiff who hope to adopt a child.
Gabriel is a singer and performance artist at Neverland, a queer club in Cardiff. He and his partner Andy have been together for eight years and now hope to take the next step by adopting a child.
Andy is enthusiastic about becoming a father, while Gabriel is less certain. The adoption process forces Gabriel to confront painful memories from his childhood, his previous problems with addiction and his complicated relationship with his father. When the couple meets seven-year-old Jake, Gabriel must face his past and decide whether he is ready to become a parent.
Lost Boys & Fairies is a three-part drama from 2024, filmed and set in Cardiff, Wales. The bilingual English and Welsh series combines a realistic portrayal of the adoption process with family drama, humour, music and colourful cabaret performances.
The series was created and written by Welsh playwright and screenwriter Daf James. Although the characters and story are fictional, the drama was partly inspired by his own experience of adopting three children with his husband. It was directed by James Kent.
Siôn Daniel Young stars as Gabriel, Fra Fee as Andy and Leo Harris as Jake. The cast also includes Elizabeth Berrington, Sharon D. Clarke, Maria Doyle Kennedy, William Thomas and Arwel Gruffydd.
An Award-Winning Drama
Lost Boys & Fairies received the 2025 International Emmy Award for Best TV Movie or Mini-Series.
It also won five BAFTA Cymru Awards, including Television Drama. Siôn Daniel Young received the Actor award, while Daf James, James Kent and Danielle Palmer were recognised for writing, directing and editing respectively.
