Reykjavik will be the home the International Gay and Lesbian Aquatics taking place from May 29th to June 2nd 2012. The event is expected to attract large crowd of athletes around the world and will be one of the biggest Aquatic sport event to be held in Iceland. The event is organized by Styrmir which is a local sport organization dedicated to the cause of encouraging gay men and lesbians to participate in sports.
Styrmir´s bid to host the event was awarded by acclaim at the IGLA Annual General Meeting in Cologne 2010. Among event sponsors are the City of Reykjavik, Inspired by Iceland (Promote Iceland) and the Icelandic Swimming Association. IGLA is the world’s foremost international organization solely devoted to developing and promoting gay and lesbian swimming, water polo, diving, and synchronized swimming.
