'A Country Teacher' receives Queer Cinema Awards

Reykjavik Queer Film Festival has just ended and at the closing party two films were awarded. The film 'A Country Teacher' (Venkovský ucitel) by the Czech director Bohdan Sláma received this year´s Queer Film Award. The film tells the story of a  talented and intelligent teacher who is hired at a school in the countryside, a brilliant film about secret desire, rejection and the search for love.

Sandi Dubowski will be sharing his experience at a meeting October 3rd in The Rainbow Room, the locals of Samtökin ´78, the National Queer Center at Laugavegur 3. Sandi DuBowski is the Producer of A Jihad for Love (featured at RIFF) and Director/Producer of the award-winning Trembling Before G-d, an unprecedented feature documentary that shatters assumptions about faith, sexuality, and religious fundamentalism.

Squeezebox directors Zach Shaffer and Steve Saporito will be in town for the queer film festival.  September 28th they will answer questions from audience and talk about their movie and production at restaurant and theater Iðnó (by the pond next to the city hall).  The session starts 5.30 p.m.

Club MSC finds itself a new location

The legendary men only club MSC is about to find itself a new location after 11 years behind the iron gate opposite the Icelandic Opera. MSC has been the heart of the leather scene in Iceland but it has also attracted men of all types who simply like the company of like minded guys and relaxed atmosphere. The new location is on Laugavegur 28 in the city center. Opening night is scheduled in early November.

Reykjavik Queer Film Festival opens next week, September 26th. This year, the Reykjavík Queer Film Festival proudly joins forces with RIFF – Reykjavík International Film Festival. Previously, the event was organized independently, but now, by being part of the largest and most prestigious film festival in Iceland, organisers hope to reach out to an even larger audience.
