Borgarleikhúsið is putting up a production of Brokeback mountain. Premiere will be March 14th 2025. The play will be performed in Icelandic.
Like the Romeo and Juliet of our time, the love story of cowboys Ennis and Jack has touched the hearts of audiences around the world.
The play is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning short story of the same name by Annie Proulx, which was later adapted into a critically acclaimed film by director Ang Lee.
Here, we follow the story of cowboys Ennis and Jack, who meet by chance while herding livestock in the American mountains in the mid-20th century. Despite the immense prejudice of society, they are drawn to each other and struggle to navigate love and freedom—forces in direct opposition to the violence and hardships of their world.
Director Valur Freyr Einarsson brings together two of the Borgarleikhúsið Theatre’s finest actors in the roles of Ennis and Jack, while the production’s live music is performed by Guðmundur Pétursson and Þorsteinn Einarsson.
