BEARS OF ICELAND are proud to announce the date for the BEARS ON ICE 2011 event which is to be held the second weekend of September in Reykjavik, Iceland September, 8-11th. For the 7th year bears and friends will take over the local gay scene and have some fun. So if you don't want to stack some food up in your hotel room go HERE for a fairly good list of places that are open in Reykjavik´s city center from 24th to 26th. October 20th is Purple day to honor the memory of the 7 American gay boys who recently committed suicide after being victims of homophobia. The Purple day is a day to stand up and show solidarity in the fight agains homophobia and show support to all those who are being bullied because they are somehow different. Tell your friends, family, co-workers, neighbours and schools and wear purple on October 20th. Join the event on FacebookListen to councilman Joel Burns tell gay teens "it gets better". Trúnó is the newest addition to the small and friendly Icelandic gay scene. Labeling itself as queer cafe Trúnó will be serving coffee, drinks and light meals (lunch and dinner), international magazines will be available as well as wireless internet for those who need to set up a quick date or just browse the internet. Trúnó will be open seven days a week from 11 am to 1 am on weekdays and 11 am to 2 am on weekends. Read more ...

Johanna Sigurdardottir is an Icon of GLBT History Month 2010 in October. Equality Forum is a national and international gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization with an educational focus, headquartered in Philadelphia. This year marks the 5th Anniversary of GLBT History Month.  "We are delighted that Iceland recently unanimously passed same-sex marriage legislation and that the Prime Minister and her partner were the first couple to be officially married" says Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director of Equality Forum.  Read more ...
