Hinsegin dagar í Reykjavík – Reykjavík Gay Pride – announces its annual general meeting, which will be held March 7th 2009 at 14:00 in the Rainbow Room of the Queer Center, Laugavegur 3, 4th floor. The Gay Pride festivities in Reykjavík, organized by the board and pride committee of the organization,  have been a marvellous success since 1999.

The world’s first openly gay prime minister

Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir

Mrs. Johanna Sigurdardottir is the world’s first openly gay prime minister leading a newly formed government after a conservative-led government for 2 years recently failed. Mrs, Sigurðardóttir, a former flight attendant and union organizer,  has a successful carrier in politics for over 30 years.

Q stands for queer but it’s also the name of the Queer Student’s Organization in Iceland which is celebrating it´s 10 year anniversary this year. Some 10 years ago LGBT students where hardly visible at the University of Iceland despite some major legislative improvements taking place in 1996. Read more ...

Iceland Express Cup

Styrmir

St. Styrmir is hosting an international gay football tournament over Easter 2009. The tournament will take place in Reykjavik April 9th - 12th, with exciting events and optional excursions taking place outside the city.  Barcelona midfielder and Iceland’s national team captain Eiður Smári Gudjohnsen has announced his open support and endorsement of the ’09 Iceland Express Cup, in the spirit of FIFA’s Football for All program.

The dates for Bears on ice 2009

We´re happy to announce the dates for the BEARS ON ICE 2009 event which is to be held in Reykjavik, Iceland September, 10-13th, 2009. For the fifth time bears and friends will take over the local gay scene and have some fun. The 2008 event was the biggest so far but the event has been growing bigger every year since first held 2005.

Drag for a decade

The Iceland Drag Competition has made a name for itself since first held 1997. An exhibition at the Queer Center on Laugavegur 3 (city center) offers a glimpse back in time at the event which has become more popular every year. The exhibition displays pictures from past events, newsclips and a video presentation which includes golden moments from previous events. Free admission.
