Johanna Sigurdardottir is an Icon of GLBT History Month 2010 in October. Equality Forum is a national and international gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization with an educational focus, headquartered in Philadelphia. This year marks the 5th Anniversary of GLBT History Month.  "We are delighted that Iceland recently unanimously passed same-sex marriage legislation and that the Prime Minister and her partner were the first couple to be officially married" says Malcolm Lazin, Executive Director of Equality Forum.  Read more ...

Jenis av Ran, chairman of Faroe Island´s Central Party has refused to attend a formal dinner held in honour of Icelandic prime minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir's and her wife who are on an official visit to Faroe Island. Jenis av Ran said if he accepts the invitation it equals supporting gay marriage which he can´t, it´s agains his religious believes and his political party will never approve same sex marriages. Jenis av Ran homophobic reaction has received a lot of attention in Iceland as in rest of Scandinavia. His reaction has been publicly condemned by Iceland's foreign minister saying his comments are "disgraceful". Read more ...

Concert with Hörður Torfason

Hörður Torfa

Hörður Torfason throws his annual concert at the City Theater (Borgarleikhúsið), September 9th, while celebrating the 40 year anniversary his first album which was released 1970. Hörður is both well know for his music and as a human rights campaigner. In 1975 he came out to the public as a gay man in an infamous interview  which left the nation in a total shock. After the interview he found himself forced to leave the country returning a few years later. His contribution to the Icelandic gay rights movement is an important one influencing the foundation of Samtökin '78, The National Queer Association Iceland in 1978. Read more ...

Bear weekend in Reykjavik

BEARS ON ICE

Reykjavik bear weekend in coming up. BEARS ON ICE kicks off Thursday night, September 9th, with a welcome party at the Queer Center (Laugavegur 3).  Over the next few days visiting bears and friends will have the opportunity to see a little bit of Iceland including geysers, The Golden waterfall and get soaked in the world famous (or so we think) geothermal Blue Lagoon (don't forget to put the blue silica mud face mask on!).

BEARS ON ICE

For the 6th year BEARS ON ICE kicks off Thursday September 9. This four day event welcomes bears and friends and is a great opportunity to see a little bit of Iceland and have some fun with like-minded guys from around the world. Since the first event held in 2005 BEARS ON ICE has become an important part of Reykjavik´s gay scene while adding some flavour to the small but open gay scene.
